Daikin vs Mitsubishi Electric: Which split system suits your Perth home?
Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric both offer split systems worth considering for your Perth home. The better choice depends on the model, installed price and features you will use. For a bedroom, you might prioritise quiet operation and night controls. For a living area, airflow and the right cooling capacity may matter more.
At Air-Cond Installs WA, we supply and install both brands. This guide compares Daikin’s Lite and Cora ranges with Mitsubishi Electric’s AP range, using current installed prices and published specifications to help you narrow your choice.
Quick Summary
- For a lower upfront price: include Daikin Lite in your comparison.
- For airflow and occupancy controls: look at the features available on Daikin Cora.
- For bedroom night controls: Mitsubishi Electric AP offers dimmed indicator lights, reduced beeps and an outdoor noise reduction function.
- For quiet cooling: compare specific models. The 2.5kW Cora and AP systems both publish a minimum indoor cooling sound level of 19dB(A).
- For running costs: compare energy ratings at the same capacity and in the same climate zone.
Mitsubishi Electric and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are separate companies. This article covers Mitsubishi Electric, including the AP models we supply.
Daikin vs Mitsubishi Electric: A model comparison
Broad claims such as “Daikin is more efficient” or “Mitsubishi is quieter” can overlook differences between models. A useful comparison starts with systems that have the same cooling capacity.
Here is how two 2.5kW reverse-cycle options compare:
| Specification | Daikin Cora FTXV25WVMA / RXV25WVMA | Mitsubishi Electric AP MSZ-AP25VGKD2 / MUZ-AP25VGD2 |
|---|---|---|
| Rated cooling capacity | 2.5kW | 2.5kW |
| Rated heating capacity | 3.2kW | 3.2kW |
| Average-zone cooling rating | 5.5 stars | 5.5 stars |
| Average-zone heating rating | 3 stars | 3 stars |
| Minimum indoor cooling sound level | 19dB(A) | 19dB(A) |
| Minimum indoor heating sound level | 20dB(A) | 18dB(A) |
| Refrigerant | R32 | R32 |
These figures apply to the listed indoor and outdoor combinations. Other capacities and model generations have different specifications. Minimum noise figures describe the lowest operating setting, rather than the noise you should expect at every fan speed.
For these two models, the published capacity and average-zone star ratings match. Your decision may therefore come down to controls, airflow, installation requirements and price.
Which costs less to supply and install in Perth?
Daikin offers a lower-priced option in the Lite range. The difference becomes smaller when you compare Cora with Mitsubishi Electric AP.
Air-Cond Installs WA’s listed 2.5kW supply-and-install prices were:
| Split system | Listed price, including standard installation |
|---|---|
| Daikin Lite FTXF25W | $1,865 |
| Daikin Cora FTXV25W | $1,985 |
| Mitsubishi Electric AP MSZ-AP25VGKD2-A2 | $2,045 |
Prices checked on 7 October 2026. Confirm current pricing, availability and the installation scope when requesting your quote.
At these prices, the Mitsubishi Electric AP costs $60 more than the Cora and $180 more than the Lite. That is a comparison between these packages, rather than a rule that applies across both brands.
A longer pipe run, upstairs access or removal of an existing system can change your total. Compare quotes that cover the same work so a lower advertised price does not obscure a different installation allowance.

Which split system is better for a bedroom?
Both brands offer small-capacity systems with quiet operating settings. For a bedroom, compare the controls you will use at night as well as the published noise figures.
Mitsubishi Electric AP: useful night controls
The AP range’s Night Mode dims the indoor indicator light, disables alert beeps and reduces outdoor operating noise. Mitsubishi Electric’s operating instructions note that capacity may drop during this mode and that outdoor noise reduction depends on operating conditions.
These controls make the AP worth considering if indicator lights or remote-control beeps bother you while sleeping.
Daikin Cora: airflow and occupancy controls
Daikin Cora offers Coanda airflow, which directs air along the ceiling to help distribute it across the room. Its smaller models include a two-area Intelligent Eye sensor, while larger Cora models use a different occupancy-sensing arrangement. The range also allows temperature settings in 0.5°C steps.
Include the Cora in your shortlist if you want more control over draughts and temperature adjustments.
For either system, discuss the indoor unit’s position before installation. Consider where you sleep, the direction of airflow and where the outdoor unit will sit in relation to your windows.
Which brand is more energy efficient?
Neither brand wins across its entire range. Compare the energy label for the exact systems on your quote.
The Australian Government’s Zoned Energy Rating Label separates cooling and heating performance across hot, average and cold climate zones. Use your postcode to identify the relevant zone, then compare systems with similar capacities and features. Energy Rating
The two 2.5kW models in our comparison both have 5.5-star average-zone cooling ratings. That gives you little reason to choose between them on that rating alone.
Also distinguish cooling capacity from electricity consumption. A 2.5kW cooling rating describes the cooling output. It does not mean the system consumes 2.5kW of electricity whenever you run it.
Your electricity use will depend on the room, weather, temperature setting and operating hours. Ask us to compare suitable systems before paying more for an efficiency claim that refers to another model or climate zone.
Which suits a Perth living area?
For a lounge or open-plan living area, establish the required capacity before choosing the brand.
A west-facing room with large windows can have different cooling needs from a shaded room of the same floor area. Your assessment should account for insulation, ceiling height, glazing and the adjoining spaces you want to condition. Government buying guidance recommends professional advice because these building characteristics affect sizing. Energy Rating
Once you have a suitable capacity range, compare:
- Airflow direction: will the unit reach the occupied parts of the room?
- Controls: will you use timers, occupancy sensing or phone access?
- Physical size: does the indoor unit fit the available wall space?
- Installed cost: do both quotes include the same pipework, electrical work and mounting arrangement?
For example, a system in a lounge with an adjoining dining area needs an assessment of that combined space. Choosing a larger unit based on brand reputation alone does not establish whether the layout will receive the airflow you need.

Wi-Fi, filtration and features: Compare what is included
A feature advertised for one range may not appear on another range from the same manufacturer.
Mitsubishi Electric’s current AP25–80VGKD2 range includes built-in Wi-Fi control. Daikin lists Wi-Fi control as optional for the Cora range covered by its heating guide. Confirm the supplied model and any accessory costs before comparing the final prices.
If phone control matters to you, ask whether the quote includes the required hardware and setup.
The same approach applies to filtration. Check the filter supplied with the model, its cleaning requirements and whether an upgraded filter costs extra. Buying a model with additional features only offers value if those features meet your needs.

Warranty and support: What should you check?
Both manufacturers offer five-year parts-and-labour warranty coverage for applicable residential air conditioning systems, subject to their warranty terms and exclusions. Warranty length alone therefore gives you little reason to choose between these two options.
Before accepting your quote, confirm:
- The manufacturer’s product warranty.
- The installer’s workmanship warranty.
- Who you should contact if a fault occurs.
- The maintenance requirements for your model.
Keep the invoice, model details and installation records together. You will also want suitable access to the equipment for future servicing.
Choose the model that fits your room and budget
For a cost-conscious purchase, ask us to include Daikin Lite alongside the other options. If you want the Cora’s airflow and occupancy controls, compare what those features add to your daily use. If night controls and built-in Wi-Fi matter to you, include the Mitsubishi Electric AP on your shortlist.
The 2.5kW Cora and AP examples show how close the decision can be: matching published capacities and average-zone energy ratings, the same minimum cooling noise figure, and a $60 difference in listed installed prices.
Air-Cond Installs WA is a family-owned Perth business founded by Wayne and Glen. We supply both brands and can compare suitable models, explain the installation requirements and provide a quote for your property.
